Reference & Instruction Part-Time Temporary Assistant Librarian
6-month contract, renewable

The Pollak Library at California State University Fullerton, a nationally recognized Hispanic serving institution (HSI), invites applications for a part-time Reference and Instruction Librarian to join our dedicated community of librarians, staff, and student assistants. This part time position will be hired for 12-19 hours per week.

The Pollak Library strives “to serve as the heart of the academic community by leading collaboration in the creation and development of innovative services, maintaining a robust collection, providing welcoming spaces, and delivering instruction to provide students with the information literacy skills necessary to participate and succeed in our society and the workforce upon graduation." (Mission Statement, September 2024)

We serve a campus community of more than 40,000 students as well as approximately 4,000 faculty and staff. Our website (http://www.library.fullerton.edu) is a vital component of the Library's extensive instruction program and serves as a gateway to resources: including 1.3 million books, government documents, and audiovisual materials; over 50,000 periodicals available electronically or in print; and 400+ electronic databases. The staff includes 25 FTE librarians and 35 FTE paraprofessionals.

Position
Provide reference assistance to CSUF students, faculty, staff, and community at the Pollak Library Research Center desk in person and online. Hours may include Saturdays. Work on specified projects as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in library and/or information science from an American Library Association (ALA) -accredited institution or equivalent institution by the time of appointment.
  • Current reference experience including the use of academic electronic resources.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively.
  • Experience supporting the research needs a diverse community of learners.
  • Availability to work occasional Saturdays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a strong user-service orientation.

Compensation
This is a six-month part-time Assistant Librarian position. Appointment is renewable based on satisfactory performance and funds availability. The Assistant Librarian 12-month Non-Exempt classification salary range is $6,288 to $7,658. The anticipated hiring range is $6,288 per month. Monthly salary is prorated to the number of hours worked. This position offers 12 to 19 hours per week, depending on availability.
